Carte geografiche e scienze del territorio: il patrimonio dell’Istituto di Geografia Umana dell’Università degli Studi di Milano tra ricerca, didattica e valorizzazione
Description:
The event is conceived as an initiative for the dissemination and communication of research, didactics and Third Mission activities connected to the use of maps and mapping tools promoted by an interdisciplinary group of the University of Milan that includes geographers, psychologists, urban planners and archaeologists.
The meeting builds on recent investigations carried out on the cartographic archive of the Institute of Human Geography, a heritage of considerable historical and scientific significance that preserves cartographic materials varying in period, scale and purpose. Through a range of contributions and case studies, the event aims to highlight the value of these documents not only as historical sources, but also as active tools for the analysis and interpretation of territorial, social and cultural processes.
By adopting different disciplinary perspectives, the initiative explores the possible uses of cartographic materials within research, university teaching and third mission activities. Maps are thus presented in their role as objects of knowledge, pedagogical devices and resources for engagement with wider audiences, capable of fostering new readings of territory and of the relationship between society and space.
Finally, the event seeks to provide a shared moment of reflection on practices of valorisation of cartographic heritage, on its communicative potential, and on the role that archives and collections can play in disseminating geographical culture both within and beyond the university. The event is aimed at students of geography courses at the University of Milan, as well as doctoral students, young researchers, and enthusiasts of geography and cartography.
For a detailed program of the event, please see the event poster.
