Leveraging Geography for Disaster Prevention: Risk and Resilience in the Municipality of Osimo

Description:

The event is conceived as a public forum for information, dialogue, and community engagement focused on the geography of risk and disasters. It aims to enhance citizens’ understanding of the main risks affecting the municipal area, examine how hazards interact with the local context, and encourage reflection on strategies for prevention, mitigation, and adaptation. Through accessible presentations and open discussions, participants will acquire practical knowledge designed to strengthen both individual and collective awareness. The initiative seeks to foster a shared culture of risk grounded in responsibility, preparedness, and collaboration among local institutions, volunteer organizations, and the broader community. The event will also include the presentation of the results of a research project carried out within the municipality, offering evidence-based findings derived from locally collected data and analysis. In addition, the program will feature a practical emergency exercise involving citizens and local volunteer associations, to promote appropriate responses in critical situations.

The event aims to increase public awareness and understanding of the main risks affecting the local community. By presenting evidence-based findings from a research project conducted within the municipality, it offers participants the opportunity to learn how risks emerge, evolve across the community, and how they can be prevented or managed. Through presentations, discussions, and a practical emergency exercise involving citizens and local volunteer associations, the initiative encourages active participation, promotes responsible behavior, and strengthens both individual and collective preparedness. Ultimately, the event seeks to foster a culture of risk awareness, cooperation, and resilience, enabling the community to better anticipate, respond to, and recover from potential disasters.
