Climate change and migrations. A geographical discussion between students and researchers.
Short presentation of the event:
On April 9, 2021, from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, geographers from Bologna University will celebrate International Night of Geography – the 2021 #GeoNight with an online event.
The Bologna #GeoNight is open to students and researchers, but also anyone interested in the topic. The event will be in the form of a conversation (in Italian only) between academics and students on the theme of climate change and environmental migration, proposing different interpretations provided by Geography to study these phenomena.
The event is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Master Degree in Geografia e Processi Territoriali of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna section of the AIIG- Associazione Italiana Insegnanti di Geografia [Italian Geography teachers association]. This year, the event also includes participation from the Società Geografica Italiana, and the #ClimateofChange project. The event is also part of Spazi di contaminazione, a seminar series co-designed by students and lecturers of the Master Degree in Geography and Territorial Processes.
Attendance is free of charge and open to all [please note that the language of the event is in Italian only].

Event program:
The meeting will begin with a conversation between Elisa Magnani and Andrea Zinzani (lecturers of the Master Degree in Geography and territorial processes at the University of Bologna) and Giovanni Bettini (lecturer in Environment and Migration at Lancaster University, UK), and will continue with a conversation between geography students – Matteo Bronzi, Monica Fasoli, Filippo Gregori and Tommaso Tonet – with Sarah Walker (Disci research fellow), Beatrice Ruggieri (Disci PhD student), who will present their research projects, and Marco Dubbini (lecturer of the Master Degree in Geography and territorial processes), who will talk about his work on a research project in Antarctica.
There will be ample space for dialogue with speakers. Giovanni Bettini will conclude the event with a reflection on the role of geography in solutions to the climate crisis and environmental migration.
