Operation Mictlán: Using Close-Range Photogrammetry (CRP) to Bolster Security Perceptions for the Living and the Departed.
Description:
Close-range photogrammetry (CRP) plays a strategic role in preserving and strengthening the perception of security in spaces where cultural and natural social dynamics converge. Through the processing of a photographic survey of a segment of the perimeter wall, precise three-dimensional models are generated. These models allow for the documentation, analysis, and monitoring of the physical state of the element that delimits and protects two architectural landmarks in the Iztapalapa district.
The first landmark is the San Nicolás Tolentino Civil Cemetery, which constitutes a space of collective memory closely linked to cultural practices such as the Day of the Dead, reaffirming the identity and sense of belonging in the area. The second is the Cerro de la Estrella Protected Natural Area, which represents a landmark of high ecological, historical, and symbolic value, whose biodiversity and recreational areas promote the community’s urban rights.
The perimeter wall functions as a physical and symbolic boundary that organizes, protects, and articulates both spatial dynamics. Consequently, CRP strengthens conservation and management strategies, increasing the perception of security and contributing to the comprehensive protection of the cultural memory and natural heritage that coexist in this environment.
Main objectives:
Disseminating close-range photogrammetry as a tool for the preservation and perceived safety of heritage environments.
