Description:
Geographical talk about the landscape, urban geography, landscape changes of Vilnius accompanied with inclusive photography activities will be held on Three crosses Hill – the iconic viewpoint of Vilnius, capital of Lithuania.
In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of the most famous Lithuanian, Polish and Vilnius photographers Jan Brunon Bulhak (1876–1950) we will analyze his 1914 photo which was taken from this viewpoint.
We will talk about the view of the The Old City captured by J. Bulhak in 1914 and the changes in our capital over 100 years. The Vilnius landscape viewed from the hill will be commented on by landscape geographer Assoc. Prof. Dr. G. Godienė, Vilnius University.
Gintas Kavoliunas, a member of the Lithuanian Analog Photography Association, head of the Public Institution “Open Photography Workshop”, and researcher of historic photography collections, will help you look at this image through the lens of an old technique similar to the one used by J. Bulhakas and will re-photograph this historical frame.
Main objectives:
To broaden knowledge about landscape geography and Vilnius landscape changes, also – commemorate the anniversary of J. B. Bulhak.
