Teaching the Night in Early Childhood Education.

Description:

This is an event focused on “Teaching the Night: From the Astronomical Phenomenon to Geographical Thinking in Early Childhood Education.” The session will include a talk on the conceptions that young learners hold about the night in Early Childhood Education and how these can be transformed into more scientific understandings.

After the talk, participants will have time to develop a micro didactic proposal to design an activity on the topic for Early Childhood Education. The best proposal will be awarded.

Main objectives:

To critically analyze the didactic potential of the day–night phenomenon in order to support the transition from intuitive explanations to basic scientific understandings in Early Childhood Education, promoting the development of children’s geographical and scientific thinking.

To design well-grounded micro didactic proposals that integrate observation, inquiry, and spatial contextualization of the day–night phenomenon, fostering teachers’ critical thinking and creativity in teaching knowledge of the environment.
