Geographical and cartographic knowledge as a precondition for countering Russian aggression in Ukraine
Description:
Modern methods of warfare have necessitated the use of multifaceted spatial information, which has long been the domain of geography and cartography. First and foremost, this includes information about weather conditions, soil conditions and properties, vegetation cover, river networks, infrastructure, settlement networks, the presence of sources of risk and hazard in the regions of the state, etc.
Modern warfare has increased the need for specialists with knowledge of the territory and geospatial data management.
These issues require discussion and will contribute to the defense against Russian aggression.
Several key reports will be presented by representatives of the geographical community and government agencies in relevant fields. They will be discussed in the form of questions and short presentations.
Main objectives:
Discussion of the components of geographical knowledge that are particularly valuable in the context of the war in Ukraine, both in terms of combat operations and the restoration of territories. It is also important to discuss educational programs and channels for disseminating information.
