Geographical walk in Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park
Geographical Walk in Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park
Description:
Join us for a guided geographical walk along the Žiegždriai Geological Trail in Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park. The trail is 1.6 km long one way (it is not circular, so we will walk back along the same route). The route is dynamic, with stairs, descents, and a variety of landforms.
During the walk, participants will explore unique geological sites such as the Kalniškiai conglomerate and the Žiegždriai outcrop, observe distinctive landscape features, and learn about the formation of this area. Interesting natural phenomena will also be discussed, including the formation of stalactites – a rare occurrence in Lithuania.
In addition to its geological value, the area is rich in cultural and mythological stories – from the legendary bear of Žiegždriai Manor to local tales about unusual animals. Participants will also notice the developing “singing trail”, where visitors hang small bells.
The walk will encourage direct engagement with nature through observation of landforms, rocks, and coastal processes in the environment of the Kaunas Lagoon.
Main objectives:
– To raise awareness of the geological and geomorphological features of the Kaunas region.
