Climate Zones of the World – From Diagrams to Ecosystems

Description:

This workshop is designed as an interactive and educational activity for students, focusing on the understanding of global climate diversity. Students will work with real climate data to create climate diagrams for selected cities located in different climatic regions of the world.

Based on temperature and precipitation data, students will analyse climatic characteristics and classify cities into climate zones. Using the acquired knowledge, they will collaboratively create a large world climate map, dividing the Earth into major climate classes.

For each climate zone, students will identify and illustrate typical vegetation and animal species, which they will place onto the climate map. Through this creative and analytical process, students will connect climate conditions with natural ecosystems and understand how climate influences life on Earth.

Main objectives:

– To develop students’ understanding of global climate zones and their main characteristics
– To strengthen skills in analysing climate data and interpreting climate diagrams
– To connect climate conditions with vegetation types and animal life
– To encourage collaborative work, critical thinking and geographical reasoning
– To promote geography as an interdisciplinary science linking climate, environment and life on Earth
