GEOlography (GEOgraphy + GEOlogy)

Description:

Interested students will have a short lecture with a presentation on the types of rocks and minerals. After that they will be introduced to the geological collection and work in groups on the assigned rocks. They will fill out worksheets in which they will be required to describe the characteristics of the assigned rocks (structure, composition, texture, color, etc.) and sketch them. They will present them to other groups.

Main objectives:

The goal is to popularize geology through the connection with geography and to interest students in this field of geoscience. Rocks are all around us, especially in our karst region. Their physical and chemical properties (for example marl, clay, quartzite, marble) determine their use in industry, construction and art.
