Country: Italy – Cities: Genoa, Laigueglia, La Spezia, Varazze

Paesaggi Rivelati: Viaggi nel Tempo
Description:
The event is organized within the framework of the PRIN project “Envisioning Landscapes: Geohistorical travel sources and GIS-based approaches for participative territorial management and enhancement”, coordinated by the University of Genoa in collaboration with the Roma Tre University and the University of Trento.
The project (PRIN 2022 PNRR – Next Generation EU), completed in February 2026, analysed 18th–19th century travel texts and iconographic sources from Lazio, Liguria and Trentino-Alto Adige to reconstruct landscape transformations over time. The materials were digitised and integrated into a public webGIS platform to support participatory territorial management and public engagement.
Continuing last year’s initiative, the initiative aims to share the project results and actively engage local communities in rediscovering historical landscape transformations.
Four simultaneous guided tours will take place in Laigueglia, Varazze, Genoa (Nervi) and La Spezia, in collaboration with local branches of the FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano. Each tour will be based on historical travel sources accessible through the project’s webGIS platform (https://grandtour.lettere.unitn.it/). University researchers will provide prior training for volunteers and will participate in selected events.
