From Cosmos to City: Geography of Earth, Humanity and the Night Sky
Description:
This GeoNight exhibition takes visitors on an interactive journey from Earth’s position in the Solar System to the human-shaped landscapes of modern cities. Through astrogeography, physical and human geography, astronomy basics, quizzes, and hands-on workshops, participants explore how natural systems, human settlements, and artificial light shape our planet. The program culminates in a focused exploration of light pollution and Dark Sky Places in Serbia, inviting visitors to reconsider the value of natural darkness and our relationship with the night sky.
Main objectives:
1. To explain Earth’s position and movements in space as a foundation for understanding natural and geographical processes on the planet.
2. To demonstrate the interconnectedness of natural systems and human activity through key concepts of physical and human geography.
3. To raise awareness of light pollution as a spatial and environmental challenge affecting ecosystems, cities, and the visibility of the night sky.
4. To promote Dark Sky Places in Serbia as examples of sustainable geography, environmental protection, and responsible use of space.
