A Cross-Generational Dialogue: Embracing the Geographer Profession – Professionalism and Prospects in the Work Environment

Description:

Presently, we celebrate the arrival of the inaugural geographer in Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the country. This development is particularly noteworthy as it allows us to fulfill the directives outlined in Government Regulation Number 45 of 2021 on Geospatial Information Implementation, specifically articulated in Article 97 concerning the geospatial information profession. Beyond being a commendable achievement, this serves as a catalyst for unlocking vast opportunities in the field of geography. The pivotal question that arises is: What steps should we take following the induction of the first geographer, and what key challenges must be addressed to prepare future geographers for the dynamic work environment that lies ahead?
In collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia, KAGEGAMA aims to initiate a cross-generational dialogue on the readiness of geographers for the global workforce. This dialogue extends beyond domestic boundaries, encompassing both domestic and international arenas.
