Discover the city of Avilés

Observatorio del Territorio / Departamento de Geografía / Universidad de Oviedo

Description:

Geographical escape room around the urban landscape of the city of Avilés in Asturias (Spain) using a virtual tour devised for secondary school students.

This virtual tour has been elaborated to facilitate the learning of secondary school students about the stages of urban development in an innovative way using new information technologies (ICT) and Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) techniques, taking the Asturian city of Avilés (Spain) as an example.

This tour seems like escape rooms, so to advance, in every single scene you should discover all the hidden elements and correctly answer the proposed question; after this next
scene will be unlocked. But take care and check the image carefully before you continue (in any case you will always be able to move freely through the discovered places by using the map above).

Avilés:

The city of Avilés is one of the most important cities in Asturias. Its landscape has been shaped from the Middle Ages to the present day.
In this virtual tour, you will be able to discover some of its most unique corners. We will visit its medieval old town, stroll through its Baroque porticoed streets, and discover the bourgeois transformations of the city, the arrival of industrialisation and its tourist reconversion into an emblematic space in the Niemeyer Centre.

Main objectives:

Develop the insight of urban landscapes.
Typify the components of the city.
Elaborate a tour which allows the interpretation of the city.
Get to know the perception of the urban space of Avilés through a virtual tour.
